Coal Dust Explosibility and the Significance of the CDEM-1000 Instrument
The instrument was initially developed in the NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) Mining Safety and Health Research Laboratory and commercialised through the joint efforts of NIOSH and Sensidyne. The CDEM-1000 can be used by mine operators and safety inspectors in accordance with coal dust sampling guidelines. These guidelines include Bureau of Mines Information Circular I.C. 7113 and MSHA Handbook, Number PH-08-V-1 are included.
CDEM-1000helps correctly manage rock dusting operations carried out to reduce coal dust explosibility and instantaneously reports safety levels. Operation of the instrument is based on optical reflectance differences and displays the explosion risk on screen with red and green indicators.
International standards (ISO 6184, ATEX Directive, NFPA 120) mandate the provision of a safe working environment in mines and the reduction of explosion risk. CDEM-1000provides a solution conforming to these standards, enabling mine operators to continuously monitor safe coal dust levels.
