Appropriate sampling heads, filter diameters, cassettes, and personal pumps are planned together for inhalable and respirable fractions. The method is selected according to MDHS 14/4 or relevant NIOSH/ISO method requirements; it should be remembered that accessories do not perform measurements on their own.

OSH - Electrical Safety and Leakage Detectors category icon

OSH - Electrical Safety and Leakage Detectors

Voltage presence checking and electrical risk screening equipment.

View Products
Show details

Appropriate electrical safety and voltage checking instruments for industrial plant and maintenance teams are selected based on target voltage, contact/non-contact measurement method, and application category. They do not replace isolation and occupational safety procedures.

Technical and regulatory note: NIOSH REL and OSHA PEL are US-based references; they should not be used as directly binding exposure limits for Turkey. MDHS 14/3 and 14/4 are practical guidance documents regarding appropriate sampling/gravimetric methods. The final method, authorisation, calibration, and Turkish legislation must be verified according to the scope of work.

Occupational Safety and Environmental Measurement

Application-Specific Selection

Difference between personal exposure and area measurement

Personal exposure in a worker's breathing or hearing zone and fixed-point area measurement are not performed for the same purpose or with the same method. Equipment such as personal noise dosimeters and air sampling pumps are used with heads and durations appropriate to the measurement method; direct-reading instruments can be valuable for preliminary screening and trend analysis.

How to choose the right instrument for noise, WBGT, and thermal comfort?

A sound level meter or personal dosimeter complying with relevant standards is required for noise exposure; WBGT and, depending on the application, air velocity, humidity, and radiant temperature are required for heat stress; relevant parameters are required for PMV/PPD in thermal comfort. Instrument class, calibration, and measurement protocol must be selected together.

Distinction between optical aerosol monitors and gravimetric sampling

Instruments such as DustTrak and EVM indicate rapid concentration trends via optical/photometric methods. In contrast, gravimetric exposure assessment requires an appropriate sampling fraction, filter, flow rate, and laboratory analysis. Optical results should be supported by gravimetric correction where necessary.

How to match pump, flow calibrator, and sampling head?

The target flow rate, personal sampling head, filter/adsorbent, sampling duration, and flow calibrator range must be compatible with the selected chemical substance and standard method. NOVEL can provide technical support in selecting suitable pumps and calibrators.

Frequently Asked Questions

What parameters do occupational hygiene and environmental measurement instruments cover?

Separate instrument families are used for distinct parameters such as noise exposure, heat stress/WBGT, temperature-humidity, CO₂, VOCs, gases, dust and aerosol concentrations, cleanroom particle counting, and personal air sampling.

Are noise dosimeters and sound level meters used for the same purpose?

No. Noise dosimeters are generally used to monitor personal exposure throughout a work shift; sound level meters are used to assess sound levels at designated locations/durations. The relevant standard and assessment method are fundamental to instrument selection.

Is WBGT measurement the same as PMV/PPD thermal comfort assessment?

No. WBGT is used for screening heat stress in hot working environments. PMV/PPD assesses thermal comfort using data including temperature, radiant temperature, air velocity, humidity, clothing, and metabolic activity.

Which instruments are used for respirator fit testing?

TSI PortaCount 8040/8048 is used in quantitative respirator fit testing with appropriate adapters and test protocols. Test methods and accessories may vary depending on the respirator type used.

Do direct-reading PM2.5/PM10 instruments replace gravimetric personal dust measurement?

Generally, no. Optical aerosol instruments provide rapid field/trend data; personal gravimetric exposure may require sampling with suitable filters, calibrated flow rates, and laboratory analysis.

Which standards are important when selecting a particle counter for a cleanroom?

Relevant standards such as the ISO 14644 family for cleanroom classification and monitoring, and ISO 21501-4 for counter performance, are evaluated. AeroTrak models are compared according to required size channels and flow rate configurations.

What is the difference between direct-reading detector tubes and TWA dosimeter tubes?

Direct-reading colorimetric tubes provide measurement results directly from the tube scale during short-term sampling. In TWA tubes, average exposure over a specified period is assessed via passive diffusion or controlled active sampling.

Are NIOSH REL or OSHA PEL directly legal limits in Turkey?

No. NIOSH RELs are recommended US references, while OSHA PELs are US regulations. Appropriate national legislation, TWA/STEL exposure limits, and measurement competence must be evaluated separately in Turkey.

How does NOVEL provide support for instrument selection and calibration services?

NOVEL provides technical support for instrument selection based on target parameters, application standards, measurement ranges, sampling accessories, and reporting requirements, as well as for determining appropriate servicing and calibration needs. Accreditation scope must be confirmed according to the service.
