Zefon A6 Bioaerosol Sampler - Measuring Instrument

Occupational Safety and Environmental Measuring Instruments

Zefon A6 Bioaerosol Sampler

The Zefon A6 is a single-stage sampler designed to reliably collect mould and fungus samples.

The Zefon A6 is a single-stage viable bioaerosol impactor sampler. It is designed to reliably collect mould and fungus samples comparable to the widely used Andersen N-6 single-stage sampler. The Zefon ZA6 impactor sampler consists of an upper cone-shaped inlet apparatus, a sampling head with over 400 precision-machined orifice holes, and a section holding the agar medium where the sample is collected.

When air is drawn into the sampler, airborne particles travel with multiple air streams and impact onto the surface of the agar collection medium. Following sampling, the agar plate is sent to the laboratory for analysis.

*Performance tests, demonstrated that with the Andersen N6 sampler, there is no statistically significant difference compared to the Zefon A6.

🔹 NIOSH Method 0800 and 0801 Requirements

The Zefon A6, NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) Method 0800 and 0801 satisfies the requirements. These methods define specific procedures for the collection and analysis of biological agents.

🔹 NIOSH Method 0800: Bioaerosol Sampling (Microorganisms and Fungi)

NIOSH Method 0800 provides a standard method for the collection and evaluation of airborne biological particles in the workplace, particularly fungi and microorganisms. This method involves collecting bioaerosols onto Petri dishes followed by microbiological evaluation using an appropriate analytical method. In this method, airborne organisms are collected using bioaerosol samplers such as the Zefon A6. Subsequently, these organisms are examined in a laboratory to observe the growth of fungal colonies.

🔹 NIOSH Method 0801: Mould and Fungi Sampling and Analytical Method

NIOSH Method 0801 defines standards for the accurate collection and analysis of mould and fungi samples in the workplace. This method specifically assists in evaluating biological exposure risks encountered by workers from an occupational health and safety perspective. Impactor samplers such as the Zefon A6 enable airborne mould and fungal spores to be collected onto agar media, allowing these samples to subsequently be analysed in a laboratory environment.

These methods promote the accurate and reliable use of bioaerosol samplers like the Zefon A6 and contribute to obtaining precise data for occupational safety.

    Measurement and Standards Approach
In bioaerosol sampling systems, pump flow rate must be set according to the manufacturer's method for the sampling cassette used. For Zefon Air-O-Cell applications, the typical flow rate is specified as 15 L/min; sampling duration is selected based on ambient loading and interpreted together with laboratory analysis. The sampling plan, field blanks, outdoor reference, and analytical laboratory method must be clarified prior to the project.
