Why Microdust Pro?
PM10, PM2.5, Respirable, and Gravimetric Measurement
The standard probe of the Microdust Pro photometrically monitors total airborne aerosol mass concentration in real time. 206102B size-selective adaptor and appropriate PUF filters allow selection of PM10, PM2.5, or respirable fractions. 206101B gravimetric adaptor and an appropriate air sampling pump such as the Apex2 allow simultaneous filter sample collection.
This combination is particularly important for dusts with varying optical properties. The response of laser photometers can be affected by particle size, shape, density, and refractive index. Establishing a user-specific correction factor by comparing gravimetric results with photometric results improves measurement quality for a given process or dust type.
Standards, Literature, and Measurement Methodology
ISO 7708 and EN 481form the basis in occupational hygiene for categorising airborne particles into health-related fractions such as inhalable, thoracic, and respirable. The optional size-selective adaptor system of the Microdust Pro enables field assessment of PM10, PM2.5, and respirable fractions.
NIOSH/OSHA gravimetric method approach: Direct-reading instruments are powerful for revealing dust peaks, high-exposure tasks, and the effectiveness of engineering controls in real time. When regulatory personal exposure or substance-specific analysis is required, appropriate filters, cyclones/samplers, calibrated air sampling pumps, and laboratory analytical methods must also be applied. The Microdust Pro is therefore not an alternative to gravimetric measurement, but rather a tool that accelerates on-site decision-making when used alongside it.
Static and Site Boundary Monitoring with Dust Detective
The Microdust Pro, an Apex2 air sampling pump, and a protective environmental enclosure can form the measurement core of the Casella Dust Detective system. This setup is suitable for evaluating real-time trends alongside gravimetric samples at construction/demolition sites, facility boundaries, and in short-term static monitoring studies. The manufacturer also supports PM10, PM2.5, and respirable fraction selection in the Dust Detective configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microdust Pro
What is the measurement range of the Microdust Pro?
Can PM10, PM2.5, and respirable dust be measured?
Can it be used alongside gravimetric sampling?
Is the Microdust Pro a personal dust dosimeter?
Notice: Technical specifications have been prepared based on TSI/Casella's current product page, operating manual, and technical data sheet. Photometric dust measurement response may be affected by the physical and optical properties of the aerosol. For regulatory exposure assessments, relevant standard sampling and laboratory analysis requirements must be independently verified.
