TSI DustTrak™ II 8530 - 8530EP - 8532

Occupational Safety and Environmental Measuring Instruments

TSI DustTrak 8530 Direct-Reading Dust Oil Mist PM Measurement Monitoring Instrument

Real-Time Dust - Particulate - Oil Mist Monitors for Industrial Applications

DustTrak™ II Aerosol Monitors; dust, smoke, fumes, and mist Developed to measure aerosol contaminants such as these, desktop and handheld models provide a suitable solution for diverse applications and environments. Providing real-time mass aerosol measurements, this instrument delivers versatile usage across a wide range of operational requirements.

Fluids used in metalworking shops are applied for lubrication, cooling, and swarf removal, but can become airborne as aerosols and pose health risks. Continuous monitoring is therefore crucial. The exposure limit for mineral oil mist set by international standards and OSHA is 5 mg/m³. Real-time monitoring allows lower exposure levels to be achieved and prompt action to be taken. The TSI® DustTrak™ Aerosol Monitor uses light scattering to deliver accurate, repeatable measurements for instantaneous exposure control. This represents a fast and effective solution compared to traditional gravimetric methods.

Model Differences;

  • Model TSI 8530; sufficient for indoor air quality measurements, an internal long-life suction pump. incorporates
  • Model TSI 8530-EP; intended for extended outdoor air quality measurements, durable an external suction pump. incorporates
  • Model TSI 8532; is a handheld instrument with an internal sampling probe, suitable for shorter-duration and mobile applications. It is used particularly for occupational health and safety applications and by occupational hygiene technicians for general pollution/contamination surveys across factory premises.
Features and Benefits
  • Gravimetric sampling capability and custom reference calibrations can be performed.
  • Optional zeroing module and automatic zeroing, minimises zero drift effects.
  • STEL alarm setpoint monitors short-term average mass concentrations and provides alerts via an alarm principle at user-adjustable threshold levels.
  • Real-time aerosol mass concentration measurements and data logging provide comprehensive analysis capabilities during and after sampling.
  • Different particle sizes (PM1, PM2.5, respirable, PM10) can be measured, enabling comprehensive analysis.
  • Easily programmable and operated via a colour touchscreen and user-friendly interface. The instrument kit includes an internal Dorr-Oliver Cyclone Respirable Dust Sampling Inlet, a TSP inlet, other sampling inlets, and interchangeable fraction conditioning kits. The kit contents are complete.
  • OPERATING PRINCIPLE: Light scattering methodis based on the principle of light emitted from a source interacting with and scattering off ambient particles. As particles scatter the laser beam, this scattered light is measured by photodetectors to provide information on particulate concentration and size. The method offers advantages such as real-time and sensitive measurement, detection across a broad particle size range from small to large, and rapid, non-contact analysis. It is consequently widely utilised in air quality assessments, industrial hygiene, and aerosol research.
  • Optional outdoor environmental enclosure kit provides instrument protection and security against outdoor environmental conditions.
  • To operate in high-humidity environments, an optional heated inlet sample conditioner dries the sample before it enters the instrument, improving measurement accuracy. (Optional: Heated Inlet Sample Conditioner)

Sample Applications: Oil Mist Measurement and Analysis

Sample Applications: Welding Fume Measurement and Analysis

Fumes and gases generated during industrial welding processes pose serious respiratory health risks. To control these risks, the TSI® DustTrak™ Aerosol Monitor measures welding fumes and gases in real time. The instrument continuously monitors the effectiveness of ventilation systems and, being portable, enables measurements at diverse locations. These real-time measurements keep welding fume levels rapidly under control, ensuring a safe working environment.

Other Application Examples;
