Aiphone WL-11 – Wireless Video Intercom System
Wireless intercom option for video communication with visitors in single-family dwellings.
NOVEL · Technical Expertise and Company Information
Villa and detached residential intercom systems help manage visitor communication and door entry. NOVEL offers Aiphone product families based on the number of entrances, internal stations, cabling and the required remote communication scope.
Manufacturing communication systems since 1948, Aiphone was awarded the Deming Prize in 1981 and 2018. NOVEL's focus is on selecting the right system for reliable communication and long-term operation.

The right system is selected by evaluating call flows, users, site conditions, and existing infrastructure together. The topics below provide a general guide for product selection and project planning.
Garden gates, main entrances and other access points should be listed. The locations of internal stations that will receive calls and who is authorised to release doors are determined. A residence with a single entrance and one with multiple doors may not require the same system configuration; the series to be used is selected based on this plan.
Existing wiring, distance, walls and structural obstacles should be examined together. A wireless communication option does not mean that no cables whatsoever will be required for the lock and power supply. For wired solutions, the cable type and connection layout are selected in accordance with the manufacturer's relevant system instructions.
Answering calls from outside the home is a separate use case. Supported internal units, application and network conditions should be verified. Which functions remain available in the event of an internet outage is determined; local communication and remote answering requirements are clearly separated in the project plan.
Precipitation, solar exposure, mounting height and field of view in front of the door should be evaluated. Lock type, power supply and door release connections are matched with the system. Environmental suitability of the external unit should not be assumed across the series; the installation and operational scope of the selected model must be checked.
Founded in 1948, Aiphone is a communication systems manufacturer awarded the Deming Prize in 1981 and 2018. The brand's quality approach addresses design, manufacturing, and product inspection collectively. For NOVEL, the priority is planning visitor and internal communication properly for clear, reliable, and long-term operation.
Visitor communication and door control are primary functions. Supported interfaces for lighting, HVAC or other automation tasks must be verified separately. The presence of a mobile app on a model does not mean full home automation can be controlled.
In real-world use, building materials and mounting locations can affect communication. Conditions specified by the manufacturer are examined alongside the site layout. A definitive conclusion regarding indoor connectivity should not be drawn solely from open-field range figures without a residential site survey.
Certain system families support multi-entrance configurations. The number of doors, internal station capacity and required components must be verified against the configuration of the selected model. Distinguishing calls from different doors and door release authorisations should also be planned.
Cable type, core count, length and termination condition should be examined. The presence of an existing doorbell line does not prove its suitability for a video intercom. The rewiring scope is determined by comparing against the power and signalling requirements of the new system.
Local operation and mobile service requirements differ depending on the system. Suitable wired or local solutions can be used without requiring internet service; remote app use may require additional network conditions. Full scope should be verified from the relevant product and installation layout.
Number of entrances, internal station locations, distances, existing wiring, lock type and mobile answering requirements should be provided. External unit conditions and power outage scenarios should be included. This allows the appropriate product family to be selected to match the true communication needs of the residence.
Aiphone publishes a product security policy. Access permissions, network topology, and supported firmware versions must be evaluated together in the project. Security features vary by model; no device should be assumed to be unconditionally "unhackable", and manufacturer updates and technical guidelines must be followed.
Aiphone outlines a quality and durability approach geared towards long-term operation. Actual service life depends on environment, installation quality, maintenance, and spares availability. The status of existing components and current support scope must be reviewed; an invariable 10, 20, or 30-year performance guarantee must not be assumed for all models.
