Gas-tight sampling bags in various volumes for collecting gas and vapour samples on site and transporting them to the laboratory or analyser. Options with PTFE septum and on/off valves are selected according to the measurement method and sample type.

How to select?

Sample volume, chemical nature of the gas, holding time, sampling method, and valve/septum options must be evaluated together. Tedlar® PVF and foil options are suitable for different analytical purposes; storage duration and recovery depend on sample composition.

Sampling note

The suitability of the bag type for the laboratory method must be determined together with the sample transport and analysis chain. It should not be assumed that every film type provides the same stability for every gas.

Selection guide

The right instrument, the right application.

Portable gas detectors are used to measure flammable and toxic gas risks as well as oxygen levels in the working area while personnel are on the move. Diffusion models provide significant advantages during personal and site inspections, whilst pumped models offer substantial benefits for remote sampling prior to confined space entry.

Gas type, measuring range, sensor technology, pump requirements, alarm configuration, and explosive atmosphere certification must be evaluated together. While personal monitors provide early warning, fixed systems continuously monitor a designated point. NOVEL offers support in model selection and technical evaluation of site applications.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions answered.

What is the difference between a portable gas detector and a gas leak detector?

Portable gas detector is a general term encompassing transportable measuring instruments. Pinpoint leak detectors investigate the location of leaks on connections and lines, whereas personal gas detectors are used to monitor personnel against gas hazards.

Which instruments are suitable for city gas distribution companies?

Heath HYBRID Service can be evaluated for service and emergency leak/odour surveys; Heath HYBRID CGI can be evaluated for infrastructure duties such as construction, bar-hole, pinpointing, and purging. The definitive selection must be made according to the utility's target gas and operating procedures.

Are Heath HYBRID instruments laser gas detectors?

Heath describes the HYBRID family as optical-based multi-gas detection. This statement does not directly mean remote laser/TDLAS scanning; for such measurements, the relevant remote laser detector category should be consulted.

What factors are considered when selecting a portable gas detector?

Target gas and concentration, ppm or %LEL range, pump/sample hose, operating conditions, alarm purpose, battery runtime, maintenance, and applicable regional certification scope must be evaluated together.

Do gas sampling bags replace measuring instruments?

No. A gas sampling bag ensures that the sample is collected and transported using an appropriate method; it does not measure gas concentration itself. Analysis is conducted separately using an appropriate detector or laboratory instrument.

Are bump testing and calibration necessary for portable instruments?

A bump test is a functional check; calibration is the adjustment/verification of the measurement against a reference gas. Requirements and intervals must be determined according to manufacturer instructions, site procedures, and local regulations.
