TSI DustTrak 8540 and 8543 Outdoor Real-Time Dust-Aerosol Monitor

Outdoor Real-Time Dust-Aerosol Monitoring

The TSI DustTrak™ 8040 and 8043 aerosol-dust monitoring unit is designed for harsh outdoor conditions alongside heavy industrial workplaces, construction and environmental sites, and other outdoor applications. Its rugged design incorporates an enhanced optical module, an internal automatic zeroing feature, and a field-replaceable, long-life pump (>10,000 hours). The photometer measures aerosol contaminants such as dust, smoke, fumes, and mist in ambient temperatures from -20 to 50°C. DustTrak Environmental Monitor 8540, South Coast AQMD Rule 1466 is included in the list of pre-approved instruments for this rule. MCERTS certified models are available for PM10, PM2.5, and both PM10 and PM2.5.

    Measurement and Standards Approach
Direct-reading photometers are powerful tools for rapid site assessment and trend analysis. In regulatory gravimetric assessments of personal exposure, EN 689 and relevant sampling/analytical methods must also be considered. As aerosol type, density, and optical characteristics can affect results, a site/gravimetric correction factor should be applied when necessary.
